To fix a sagging lever door handle it is necessary to find the hole for access to the detent or pin, which is typically an elongated or rectangular with a protruding hole that is located on the opposite side of the handle base plate. Once you have located the detent access hole or pin, you can remove it using an screwdriver.
Once the handle is placed horizontally, you can reinstall the screws. Make sure to tighten them so that the handle is securely connected to the base plate. Consider applying a threadlocking solution to the threads of the screw to improve grip and prevent them from loosing over time.
There are many reasons why door handles of levers slide. The most frequent reason is that the fixings have been over tightened and are putting strain on the lever bearing and causing it to pull against the door's surface. It is also possible that the levers have not been operated at the correct angle, which compresses the latch mechanism, preventing it from fully springing into action.
Another reason is that the sprung lever isn't operating correctly and this is usually due to the spring not being in the proper position within the backplate. The easiest way to test this is to operate the handle to check if it returns to the horizontal position.
It is crucial to fix any door handles that are damaged as soon as possible. This can cause excessive wear on the screws, and the handle may even fall off the base plate. It is also a good idea to tighten all screws that are loose regularly, as this will help to stop them from loosening.
